Data Collection and Usage
Local Processing
The Kallam extension operates entirely within your browser. It scans web pages to identify English words to replace with Arabic. This process happens locally on your computer — no webpage content is ever sent to our servers.
Learning Progress
Your progress (words learned, streak, level) is stored locally using chrome.storage. If you enable sync, this data travels via your browser's own sync (e.g., your Google account) — which we never have access to.
Usage Statistics
We do not track which specific websites you visit.
Permissions & Single Purpose
Kallam has a single purpose: to help you learn Arabic vocabulary through contextual immersion by replacing English words on the pages you read.
To do this, Kallam requests the host permission (shown in browsers as “Read and change all your data on the websites you visit”). We know that sounds broad, so here is exactly how we use it:
We never log, store, transmit, or analyze your browsing activity or page content. Processing happens instantaneously on your local machine. No data about the sites you visit is ever sent to our servers.
Third-Party Services
We do not use third-party analytics services inside the extension. The website uses Supabase for authentication (if you create an account) and Stripe for payments (if you upgrade to Pro). Both providers have their own privacy policies and are GDPR-compliant.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date at the top. Continued use of Kallam after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
